Technical & Operational Details

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers regarding hardware compatibility, DMX output performance, color calibration, and cloud sync.

Do I need to install drivers for my DMX interface?

Usually, no! Most supported DMX USB dongles work directly in your browser out-of-the-box. Just plug it in (or use an OTG cable on Android), select your interface in Unilighter, and start controlling lights. In rare cases depending on your operating system or device model, a driver or system setting adjustment may be needed as detailed in our documentation.

Is a browser-based console fast enough for live shows?

Yes, absolutely. Standard DMX hardware maxes out at around 40 FPS, while Unilighter runs internally at 60 FPS. This gives you plenty of performance headroom for smooth, instant cue triggers, audio reactivity, and real-time color sweeps with zero lag.

Can I connect physical MIDI controllers on desktop and mobile?

Yes! You can map physical USB or wireless Bluetooth MIDI controllers on both desktop computers and Android phones. It works natively with controllers like the M-VAVE SMC Mixer, giving you physical faders, knobs, and cue buttons anywhere.

How does White Balance Calibration fix fixture color mismatch?

Fixtures from different manufacturers (especially non-RGBW heads) often have inconsistent color temperatures or lean slightly blue or red. Unilighter lets you calibrate white balance per fixture so your entire lighting rig outputs clean, uniform, matched colors.

What makes the Scenario Widget different from traditional cue lists?

Traditional cue lists are rigid lists of numbers. The Scenario Widget embeds your scenes, keyframe animations, and node graphs directly inside your live performance script, so stage managers and operators always know exactly where they are in the show and what needs to be triggered next.

Does the built-in 2D & 3D Visualizer replace external visualizer software?

The built-in visualizer gives you a fast, instant reference view right inside your browser window. You can sketch, patch, and verify fixture movements and colors without needing access to real physical lights or external visualizer software.

Can I use Unilighter at venues with spotty or no internet?

Yes. Unilighter works offline once loaded in your browser. Your show files save locally on your device, and as soon as an internet connection is available, your workspace automatically syncs back to the cloud.

Will my show files and projects remain safe when the Open Beta ends?

Yes! All your projects, dashboards, fixture profiles, and scenario scripts remain saved in your account. Plus, early beta members lock in a guaranteed 50% discount when paid plans launch.
